1.5 million candidates write UTME today..

With the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled to hold today, the atmosphere seems set with the deployment of security operatives across the country.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, had earlier in the week allayed the fears of Nigerians, particularly the candidates, when he said that the State Security Services (SSS), Police, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other security agencies have been engaged to avert problem.

He said a total of 1,503,931 candidates were registered for the 2012 UTME, making it the one with the highest number of registered candidates since the existence of JAMB.

This year’s UTME, according to Ojerinde, will hold simultaneously in 375 towns in Nigeria and six foreign centres, namely Accra in Ghana , Buea in Republic of Cameroon, Cotonou in Republic of Benin, London in the United Kingdom, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Johannesburg in South Africa .

On the updating of the biometric fingerprint, the JAMB boss said: “In spite of some reported cases of malfunctioning of machine and late coming by some officials who are charged with the responsibility of managing the biometric machine, in this year’s examination, the biometric machine to be deployed is technically faster than the one used in 2011. It takes only a fraction of a second to get the machine to initialise, using candidate’s examination centre code.”

He appealed to supervisors and invigilators to avoid any sharp practises adding that: “The board on its part is determined to ensure that all officials engaged in the conduct of the examination are held responsible for any lapses during the examination and the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on any erring official.”

U.S. Army soldier Charged with 17 Counts of Murder in Afghan Massacre

The 38-year-old U.S. Army soldier accused of an Afghan village massacre has been charged with 17 counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder, but it may be as much as two years before a trial. The deadly incident has further strained already-frayed relations between the U.S. and Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, an 11-year military veteran, is alleged to have walked out of his southern Afghanistan military post earlier this month under the cover of darkness and gunned down nine children and eight adults. Relatives of the victims said Friday they want Bales’ trial held in Afghanistan.

A spokesman for Bales’ home military base in Washington state said it will be several months before a preliminary hearing begins, and perhaps as long as two years until a trial, depending on pre-trial motions and actions.

Bales, the father of two young children, was officially informed Friday of the charges against him at the U.S. military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he is confined.

Bales’ civilian lawyer, John Henry Browne, has admitted that his client had something to drink before the shooting spree, despite a military alcohol ban.

Browne has said his client was likely suffering from combat stress.

Bales, who served three tours of duty in Iraq before being deployed to Afghanistan last December, suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq in 2010. A day before the massacre, he witnessed one of his fellow soldiers get his leg blown off.

News reports have emerged that Bales has had past brushes with the law in the U.S. involving alcohol. He is also reportedly facing financial troubles at home, and had a $1.5 million securities fraud judgement issued against him several years ago.

Bales could face the death penalty for his shooting rampage. The U.S. military has not executed a service member in five decades.

Timi Dakolo Weds.

Timi Dakolo is in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital for the traditional wedding that is taking place today as a very private ceremony which only a few family members and friends will attend.

Sources say his lover, a light skinned beauty met the singer a couple of years ago and they started dating but press shy Timi made sure the relationship was conducted under utmost secrecy.

However, the pair began hanging out publicly when his widely acclaimed Ribbons & Roses Concert kicked-off last year as they were practically inseparable while the tour lasted.

“They just can’t have enough of each other,” an insider squealed to Off the Stage, “they are practically inseparable. You know Timi is press shy so he has managed to keep the relationship under wraps for so long but as soon as his Ribbons & Roses Concert kicked-off, she had to join him on tour as they couldn’t stay away from each other for long periods any more. She was on tour with him while Ribbons & Roses lasted. Timi has been so secretive about her; even those close to him don’t even know her name.”

According to the source, the couple had a baby boy last year.

“Timi was so excited when the baby boy arrived last year. The baby further bonded them together. In fact, the baby is a carbon copy of Timi.”

Timi shot to fame and stardom after he won the maiden and only edition of Idols West Africa in 2007. His debut album, Beautiful Noise was released last year. He is under Now Muzik management.

Good Deed? JAMB grants special treatment to Albinos

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has classified Albinos as visually impaired persons thus qualifying them for special treatment during examinations.

Registrar of JAMB, Prof. ’Dibu Ojerinde said this while briefing officials of the examination body in Abuja on Saturday.

He said the board would henceforth classify albinos as visually impaired persons which qualifies them to enjoy additional time of two hours in its future examinations.

Ojerinde said, the decision was informed by the peculiar sight problem associated with albinism.

He stressed the need for all examination bodies to do whatever they could to assist these vulnerable persons.

The registrar said, “For us in JAMB, we are trailing the blaze by incorporating the eye problem of the group into our examination planning.”

He further said JAMB was determined to provide a level playing field for all albinos desirous of tertiary education.

This, he said, could include providing them with magnifying lenses to help them enlarge type faces of words for examinations in no distant future.

Responding, the President of the Albino’s Foundation, Jake Epelle, expressed confidence that the foundation’s visit would translate into more albinos registering and passing future UTME.

Epelle commended JAMB for far reaching innovations especially its decision to officially categorise and treat albinos as visually impaired persons.

Sad!! Boko Haram vows to attack Southern Nigeria – Names Cities to Attack

Security Agencies today uncovered the plot by the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to commence its operations at the southern part of the country.

Source tell us in Abuja on Friday that the sect had pointed at some prominent cities for possible attack. The cities among others are Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Onitsha and Warri.

It was gathered that the move to extend its tentacle came due to the constant attack on the sect members in most parts of the North.

Another source revealed that the reasons for for the extension of its operation to the South, was to avoid limiting its campaign to an ethnic affairs.

Another security source revealed that it’s possible that some of the Boko Haram sect members were presently in the some Southern states.

The source revealed thus, “It was not a coincidence that Sokoto, who had been on the wanted list of the police before December 25, was sighted in Lagos.

“His presence in Lagos was not for fun. This is one of the angles security agencies are working on.

“I think the group has noticed that security is not tight in the South and there have not been bombings. They are out to cash in on the laxity.”

The Senate Committee on Police had stated that Sokoto was also seen in Lagos after his escape

The committee chairman, Senator Paulinus Nwagu, while presenting the report of the probe said, “Police intelligence revealed that prior to his arrest on January 14, 2011, Kabiru Sokoto had been on the wanted list of security agencies.

“Sokoto was reported to have been noticed within the vicinity of Snake Island, Lagos, and left Lagos sometime on December 13, 2011 and disappeared from surveillance monitoring until January 11, 2012.

“He was later traced to Abaji in the Federal Capital Territory.

“Police detectives traced him from Abaji to Abuja on the same date and further traced him to Asokoro-Abuja, where he was finally apprehended at about 0240 hours (2.40 am) on January 14, 2012, at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge at Iro Dan Musa Street, Asokoro, and Abuja.”

A security source stated, “Since the heat has been turned on them, they have been moving to Lagos and other cities, where they mix with unsuspecting northerners residing in those cities.”

He said that the sect’s plot to attack the South was aimed at further creating the impression that there was instability in the country.

The source said, “You will observe that activities of the sect are ebbing due to unrelenting efforts of security agencies.

“But Boko Haram is also devising another method. This time around, it is looking at ways of attacking the South.”

On the contrary, Muslim leaders have denied such intention , stating that penetrating into states would almost mean a suicide mission.

NAIJA CELEBS SPEAK ON D’BANJ-DON JAZZY SPLIT

The recent split between Mo’Hits bosses D’banj and Don Jazzy has gained major attention from all over the world with everyone sharing their opinions on the sad separation.

Here’s what some of key industry players have to say on the shocking development… We’d love to know what you think too.

Terry Tha Rapman: Well, first of, I don’t want to believe it’s true. Who knows it might be a publicity stunt. But if it’s true, then it’s sad because they were about to make history with the alliance with G.O.O.D Music. Now Mo’Hits’ fans are torn apart and it might affect both of them.

M-Trill: I think it’s a sad development not just that they split but the way they did. I wish it was more cordial. Now, I have renewed my respect for Kenny Ogungbe and D1. I wish them both the best…

Demola Ogundele (Notjustok): The split is sad. The good thing is that they are still both alive and have the opportunity to drop music that we can still enjoy. The bad thing is that we won’t get to enjoy the Synergy and the magic they have created together in the past. I wish them both blessings as they move on to their individual goals.

Evaezi: I’m genuinely speechless and sad. They made a great team… Their chemistry was unbelievable…and you could feel it in their music. As for the effects, I honestly don’t know. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Cyrus Tha Virus: I really think it’s not as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be; both parties have paid their dues together as a formidable Mo’Hits entity. Now I guess it’s time for chasing separate personal dreams; what it portends for the Nigerian Music industry? I guess we will now see a lot of the other ‘labels’ struggling to become the number one label in Nigeria and I can’t wait to see what Don Jazzy and D’banj can do separately.

Goldie: I feel it’s very sad, especially as together; they were a force to be reckoned with. It’s hard to imagine how each would cope without the other.

Princess: They are both roles models to a lot of people. They should sort out their differences but not break up

Overdose: Both men are grown and make decisions. I don’t think it has anything to do with other people making music.

Aremu Afolayan: a fan of them. I don’t know what their problem is. They make a hell lot of money from us Nigerians. They should call themselves together and settle it. It’ll affect a lot of things in the industry.

OC Ukeje: The music industry will do well with or without them. They will need people. Don Jazzy has an advantage over him as a producer and singer.

Olisa Adibua: The industry is bigger than them. So it can’t affect them. It’s time for the industry to get more people. The artistes under the label won’t suffer, just that the friendship between the two will. They might come back again like the Beatles

Jacob Akinyemi Johnson: Well the truth is I don’t have all the facts about the matter yet, and as such I can’t really speak on it for now. Don Jazzy and Dbanj are both my friends so I have to be careful what I say about it for now.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu: It’s hard to react yet because we’ve not heard from D’banj yet, but in all I think music has gone beyond individuals, it’s not the end of the world. The good thing is Don jazzy has said he’s gonna continue doing music and D’banj too will continue, though maybe on an international level, but at any rate, I think they will continue doing good music.

eLDee: I don’t see any negative effects on the industry. I think they are going to continue to do good music as long as they are active. It’s just unfortunate things turned out this way and I wish it wouldn’t have come to this. I’ve been through this before and I can tell you it hurts. But I wish them the best.

Toolz: I think it’s sad because you really can’t talk about Nigerian music without mentioning them. However, I see it as a whole new chapter for the artistes on the label and I also think that won’t stop them from doing music.

Steve Babaeko: Unlike most people my focus is not on the split but the outstanding contribution that both Don Jazzy and D’banj have made and are still making to Nigeria’s music industry. Change is part of this game, sadly so. In a country where millions of young people are struggling to find their voice, these gentlemen not only found theirs they spoke eloquently about the courage, perseverance and creativity of Nigerian youths. I wish both of them good luck in their future pursuits.

Olumide Iyanda: Well I think it definitely has affected the music industry, I was there when the whole thing started in 2004. Anyway, for now, let’s see how the whole thing goes.

Segun Demuren: I think it’s a shock, especially coming on the heels of a major international deal, I wish it didn’t have to happen this way. Don Jazzy is probably the best producer in the country right now, and D’banj, in spite of what people may say or think, I mean, I know he drew quite a lot of criticism on twitter and the like, but he is one of the most electrifying performers anywhere. I think they will both go on to do very well in their careers.

Modenine: Well I’ve known D’banj for quite a while now, more than 10 years ago, and I’ve also met Don Jazzy as well and we all know they are both an award winning team. I’m not about what went down and all of that, but It’s unfortunate. I do wish them well though.

Obi Asika: I was extremely sad to see Don Jazzy’s tweet today. I just want to salute Don Jazzy and D’banj and the entire mo hits crew, amazing memories! I pray that the personal relationships can be repaired and wish both Don Jazzy and D’banj well. They made history don’t forget it! Sad News!

Illbliss: It came as a shock. They made great music as a team but then that’s the music business. Life goes on uninterrupted.

Darey: It’s pretty sad to hear that because they are all my friends. I hope everything turns out for the best

Arakwe died on Aug. 17, 2010 at the Eko General Hospital, Surulere, after he was allegedly tortured and beaten by Chiamaka for “misbehaving”. The testifying police officer told the court that:

Amazing!! Nigeria Twins, Breaks World Mathematics Record.

The two youngest Nigeria siblings are about to make British history as the youngest students to ever enter high school. They astounded veteran experts of academia when they became the youngest to ever pass the University of Cambridge's advanced mathematics exam. That's on top of the fact they have set world records when they passed the A/AS-level math papers. Chris Imafidon, their father, said he's not concerned about his youngest children's ability to adapt to secondary school despite their tender age. "We're delighted with the progress they have made," he said. "Because they are twins they are always able to help and support each other."To Peter and Paula's parents, this is nothing new. Chris Imafidon said he and his wife have been through this before: They have other super-gifted, overachieving children. Peter and Paula's sister, Anne-Marie, now 20, holds the world record as the youngest girl to pass the A-level computing when she was just 13. She is now studying at arguably the most renowned medical school in the United States, Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore. Another sister, Christina, 17, is the youngest student to ever get accepted and study at an undergraduate institution at any British university at 11. And Samantha, now age 12, had passed two rigorous high school-level mathematics and statistics exams at the age of six, something that her twin siblings, Peter and Paula, also did.

He was said to have sold the baby for N60,000 to an accomplice , Bashiru, said to be at large.

Chigoziem, said to be a wheel-barrow pusher at Gariki in Enugu, Enugu State, was alleged to have conspired with one Mr. Bashiru and stole a Nokia GSM handset valued at N8,000 and Samsung handset valued at N6, 000, property of Mr. and Mrs. Sunday Ibe.

During his arrest, Chigoziem was said to be violent and assaulted the couple allegedly with a kitchen knife and inflicted injuries on Mrs. Ibe.

D'banj Says Don Jazzy Is His Artist and He Owns Mohits Record Label.

If D'banj recent interview with ebony magazine is anything to go by, then that report will be completely true, D'banj made it clear that Don Jazzy is his artist and he is the owner of Mohits records, even though everybody thought it was it other way round - in D'banjs words:
EBONY MAG: How did you meet Kanye West?
D’BANJ: I had a concert in Dubai and when we pulled up to the airport’s first class lounge and a hostess ran up to me with a plaque with Kanye’s face on it, asking me to sign it. I said ‘I’m not Kanye West, I’m D’banj but Kanye West is coming? All eyes open.’ Then my manager spoke to Kanye, came back and told me ‘He’ll give you five minutes.’ I walked over -- as an African man I’m always prepared -- and I played my music ‘Stand Out,’ ‘Fall In Love’ and ‘Scapegoat’ for him on my iPod. Before we knew it, I’d almost missed my flight and he invited me to New York.
Coming from Africa I’m my own manager, I have my own label called Mo’ Hits with my artists Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, Don Jazzy, D’Prince and K-Switch. I own Mo’ Hits and we’ve won numerous awards by the grace of God. Being with Kanye for the last eight months and me leading a successful label in Africa, I’ve learned a lot and I believe people will see what we’re going to do. I signed with Kanye in June and that same month I won the BET Award for Best International Act. My New York concert isn’t done by G.O.O.D. Music, it’s done by Live Nation, meaning I’m already a moving machine. So who better to introduce me to the global world than Kanye West, a crazy genius?

Explosion Strikes Central Nigeria Church, Plateau.

JOS, Nigeria, A suicide car bomber attacked a Catholic church Sunday in the middle of Mass, killing at least 10 people in the latest violence targeting a church in a central Nigerian city plagued by unrest, a state official said.

The bomb detonated as worshippers attended the final Mass of the day at St. Finbarâ Catholic Church in Jos, a city where thousands have died in the last decade in religious and ethnic violence. Security at the gate of the church compound stopped the suspicious car and the bomber detonated his explosives during an altercation that followed, Plateau state spokesman Pam Ayuba said.

The blast damaged the church roof, blew out its windows and destroyed a portion of the fence surrounding the church compound, Ayuba said. At least 10 people died, Ayuba said, while many others were wounded in the blast, including soldiers who also had been stationed at the church. He destroyed so many things, the spokesman said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility though the city has been targeted in the past by a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram. The sect claimed a series of bombings in Jos on Christmas Eve in 2010 that killed as many as 80 people. The sect also claimed a similar church bombing on Feb. 26 on the main headquarters of the Church of Christ that killed three people and wounded 38 others.

The sect, which speaks to journalists through telephone conference calls at times of its choosing, could not be immediately reached for comment Sunday.

Jos and surrounding Plateau state have been torn apart in recent years by violence pitting its different ethnic groups and major religions  Christianity and Islam against each other. Human Rights Watch says at least 1,000 people were killed in communal clashes around Jos in 2010.

The violence, though fractured across religious lines, often has more to do with local politics, economics and rights to grazing lands. Muslims in the city also say they are locked out of lucrative jobs in the region as the Christian-led state government doesn't recognize them as citizens.

The Catholic church attack also comes after a failed raid Thursday by British and Nigerian commandos left a Briton and an Italian hostage dead in Nigeria far northwest. British officials have blamed a splinter cell of Boko Haram for the attack, something a spokesman for the group has denied.

However, the attack has opened a new front on Nigeria ongoing struggle with terrorism, showing any region across the nation Muslim north can be attacked and anyone, including foreigners, could be targeted.

Kris Humphries Asking For $7 Million From Kim Kardashian

According to TMZ, the reality star’s estranged husband, New Jersey Nets star Kris Humphries, is asking for $7 million to quietly — and officially — end their 72-day marriage.

Sources for the website reportedly claim the NBA player has given Kim an ultimatum – either hand over the dough or head into a public trial.

Kim’s lawyers have reportedly told Kris and his lawyer to “pound sand” regarding the seven-figure request, TMZ reports, as community property from a 72-day marriage would not add to up to anywhere near $7 million.

Additionally, Kim and Kris reportedly signed an “iron-clad” prenuptial agreement prior to their wedding, which would put the kybosh on the 31-year-old beauty having to shell out such a large sum, according to the site.

A rep for Kris was not immediately available for comment on the reported monetary request when contacted by Access Hollywood on Saturday.

More drama as Britain deports 120 Nigerians!!

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports, the British Government has deported no fewer than 120 Nigerians from the U.K. for various immigration offences.

The deportees arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja in Lagos in the early hours of Friday.

The deportees were airlifted back home aboard a chartered cargo aircraft that landed at the cargo section of the international airport.

A reliable source told newsmen that the deportees were brought home in the early hours, so as not to draw undue attention from the public.

The deportees, comprising mainly young men and women, narrated their unsavoury experiences, saying that they were brought back home unprepared by the British authorities.

Many of them were said to have kept themselves busy, making telephone calls to their friends and relations on how to pick them at the airport.

The source said that the deportees also made frantic efforts to move their luggage which were packed in `Ghana Must Go’ bags from the cargo wing of the airport to the airport's main gate, preparatory to finding their ways out of the airport.

Some of the deportees were said to have expressed reservations over the way and manner they were brought home in a cargo aircraft.

Scores of airport workers stopped by to interact with the deportees, as some of them narrated their ugly experiences and not knowing what exactly to fall back on, now that they had returned to a country they left many years ago.

One of the deportees, a young lady, who declined to give her name said: "I am not interested in discussing why we were brought back home but my problem now is how to get out of this airport without drawing unusual attention.

"I must, however, add that it is not a pleasant experience,’’ she added.

Another deportee, a young man, lamented that they were sent home unprepared and wondered how he would be able to cope. (NAN)

Nigerian Doctor, Edwin Njoku Arrested For Raping His Patient In USA

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (NECN) - A East Hartford doctor accused of sexually assaulting a patient appeared in court.

Doctor Edwin Njoku may lose his medical license following accusations of sexual assault made by a female patient.
"He raped me. He's a rapist," said Anolan Drago, alleged victim.

Drago, 29 is talking about her doctor, Edwin Njoku. She says he sexually assaulted her last October in his East Hartford office during an exam. She went to the emergency room after the attack, and police were called.

Police gathered evidence including DNA samples from saliva on Drago's breast and fluid on her clothes and body. That evidence was presented at Dr. Njoku's disciplinary hearing where he faces the loss of his license to practice.

His license has already been suspended. A lab technician testified that the DNA in the fluids is consistent with Dr. Njoku. An East Hartford police officer said, when he first interviewed Dr. Njoku, the doctor had a curious reaction.

"He said that I will not admit that I have had intercourse. If that's what you want me to do, I'm not going to do that," said Sgt. Joshua Litwin of the East Hartford Police Department.

Dr. Kjoku's actions were curious because no one had mentioned what the accusations were.

Dr. Njoku's attorney told the medical panel that Drago's recount of what happened was inconsistent. But the lawyer for the health department had this response.
